So long with naught but dust to breathe,

They’d been Within so long.

The Masters’ seal had held them there.

They’d been Within so long.

Without was just an untold tale

They’d been Within so long.

Until the poison found them there.

They’d been Within so long.

The gasping groaning death crept near

They’d been Within so long.

The burning monster skinned them there,

They’d been Within so long.

Flayed living brothers, sisters all.

They’d been Within so long.

The Masters’ doctrine bound them there,

They’d been Within so long.

 Obedient workers kept the faith

They’d been Within so long.

Till whispered freedom woke them there.

They’d been Within so long.

The Masters’ cold and dying hands

They’d been Within so long.

Broke seals while still they cursed them there,

They’d been Within so long.

And clamoring, clawing, scaling walls

They’d been Within so long.

They rose from depths that gripped them there.

They’d been Within so long

The ancient secret shafts they climbed

They’d been Within so long.

Proved lies alone had trapped them there.

They’d been Within so long.

Below the mythic Surface crust,

They’d been Within so long.

No Master now to keep them there

They’d been Within so long.

A thrust of drilling tail breaks through

They’d been Within so long.

The skin of earth that bore them there.

They’d been Within so long.

Last edge they breach and gain Without.

They’d been Within so long.

Life’s water, air await them there

They’d been Within so long.

Mid many wonders to behold.

They’d been Within so long.

Without’s small dwellers meet them there,

They’d been Within so long.

And stumbling toward their new found home

They’d been Within so long.

The same death poison did greet them there.

They’d been Within so long.

Unsafe, Without was filled with light

They’d been Within so long.

About suzanawylie

Suzana Wylie is the not-very-pseudo pseudonym of Susan Wylie Wilson, because let's face it, there are lots of Susan Wilsons around, and as an author, I want readers to find ME and not the bazillions of others. I've been writing all my life - since I learned to hold a pencil anyway - and can't NOT write. Other people have to breathe to live; I have to write.
