Selma

He gave her America today,
The little girl from Canada
Who dreamed of Yes We Can
And greatness, justice,
Actions from “it’s the right thing to do”
Not “it profits me.”
He spoke of history
He spoke of place
Of freedom
Sacrifice
Rights gained
And rights in jeopardy.
He spoke of diversity
The fitting together
Into a holy whole America,
One nation under Equality.
He morphed into We
We blacks
We gays
We women
We workers
We explorers
We…
Standing on a bridge in Alabama,
He gave her America today,
The little girl from Canada.
May all her dreams come true.

About suzanawylie

Suzana Wylie is the not-very-pseudo pseudonym of Susan Wylie Wilson, because let's face it, there are lots of Susan Wilsons around, and as an author, I want readers to find ME and not the bazillions of others. I've been writing all my life - since I learned to hold a pencil anyway - and can't NOT write. Other people have to breathe to live; I have to write.
